High School Students under the age of 17 ˝

You must be in possession of two (2) certificates BEFORE you can take the test at the DMV for a Provisional Driving Instruction Permit.
This is a DMV regulation.

If you have NOT completed ANY training
(ages 15 through 17 ˝):

1)      You MUST first complete a Driver’s Education course before you can go to the DMV to take your written test. Click here to take our DMV approved on-line Driver's Ed - on the Net course with Metro.

2)      Once you have completed your Driver's Ed - on the Net - with Metro, you will be automatically issued OL237 – Certificate of Completion of Classroom Driver Education. It will be sent to you via the US Postal Service because the DMV will only accept original Certificates.

3)      To ensure you pass the test, Metro will provide you with an unlimited number of simulated DMV practice tests. This is part of Driver's Ed -on the Net - with Metro and it is FREE  

4)      You MUST now "enroll" and "pay" for Behind-The-Wheel (BTW) lessons before you can take your written test at the DMV. This is a DMV regulation. You will be given a Certificate of Enrollment in Driver Training (OL392). Check out our list of recommended driving schools or call your favorite driving school.

5)      You must take both certificates (OL237 & OL392) to the DMV in order to take your written test at the DMV.

6)      When you have passed the written test at the DMV you will be given a Provisional Permit.

7)      You can now call your driving school and schedule your first Behind-The-Wheel lesson.

8)      Your Provisional Driving Instruction Permit will be signed by your licensed Driving Instructor towards the end of your first lesson.

9)      Remember, you are NOT allowed to drive with your parents or    anybody else, except a licensed driving instructor, until after your first lesson.

10)      After the first lesson you are eligible to practice driving with anybody over the age of 25 who also holds a California drivers license.
